Dear Dazai
I’ve been thinking about this for a while, THE PLAN, and I believe I’ve finally found the right course of action.
Basically I’m going to exert the most self-control I’ve ever known and will not buy any books until I’ve read absolutely all of the ones in my house.
I expect it to be excruciating. Absolutely horrible. But also exciting.
I mean I bought these books for a reason – to read them – and that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
There is an exception to this; if I don’t like them and have given them a reasonable chance, I’m not going to finish them. I think life is far too short to waste time reading books that don’t resonate with me.
To keep myself motivated I’m planning on reviewing each book that I finish, on a tentative bi-weekly schedule. Mainly to ensure that I actually do this, but also hopefully encourage some more talk about books.
There can never be enough talk about books.
So tomorrow I’ll be posting a review of the Akutagawa book I’ve just finished and discussing how this book changed my whole opinion on him as an author.
xx
